ALGEBRA CLASS INFORMATION
MRS. CHRON
Text: Algebra 1 California Edition (Prentice Hall, 2001)
Course Overview: Algebra 1 is a Standards-based program that is dedicated to providing the instruction and skills that students need in order to measure up to Californias high Standards. Algebra 1 California Edition was developed specifically for California and the California Mathematics Content and Standards and Framework are at the core of the program. Lessons are organized using a direct-instruction approach so students know exactly what they will learn, how they will learn it and why it is important. There is emphasis on writing, solving and graphing linear and quadratic equations. Mathematical reasoning is interwoven throughout.
Grading Policy: Each student will keep a grade sheet in his/her notebook listing all points earned. At the end of a chapter, a final grade will be given and the sheets will be sent home to be returned with a parent signature.
Grades are based upon the points earned from tests, quizzes and assignments.
A) Tests-There will be one test for each chapter (150 points each)
B) Quizzes- There will usually be two quizzes per chapter (20 points each). Some of these may be unannounced. If a student is absent on the day of a test or quiz, he/she must be responsible for arranging to make it up as soon as possible.
C) Assignments- Homework will be assigned at least four days each week and is due at the beginning of the next class meeting. In-class assignments and projects will also be given. All work will be graded on completeness and neatness and must be done in pencil with the problems copied and all work shown. Assignments are worth 8 points.
Late work will be accepted up until the chapter test for, at most, half credit.
D) Bonus points may be available periodically; however, extra credit projects are not offered.
This is an advanced level class. All students are expected to maintain a grade of B- or higher. Low grades may result in a change of class placement.

Course Overview: Pre-Algebra 1 is a course designed to prepare students for success in Algebra. Prentice Hall Pre-Algebra covers all content mandated by the California Standards, with emphasis on working with numbers and equations and understanding the underlying mathematics principles.
Grading Policy: Grades are based upon the points earned from tests, quizzes, notebooks, assignments, behavior points and extra credit projects.
A) Tests -There will be one test for each unit (100 points per test).Tests are not sent home. If parents wish to view a test, please contact me.
B) Quizzes -There will be approximately two quizzes per unit (10 points per quiz). Some of these may be unannounced. If a student is absent on the day of a test or quiz, he/she must be responsible for arranging to take a make-up test or quiz before or after school as soon as possible.
C) Notebooks -Notebooks are collected at the end of each quarter. They are worth a maximum of 50 points. Arrangement:
Assignment page
Course requirement sheet/policies
Assignments in order (Notebooks should be 3-ring binders)
Notes and warm-ups in order
Quizzes
D) Assignments -Homework will be assigned at least four days each week and is due at the beginning of the next class meeting. In-class assignments and projects will also be given. All work will be graded on completeness and neatness and must be done in pencil (one point will be subtracted for ink) with the problems copied and all work shown. Assignments are worth 4 points. Late work, excluding absences, will be accepted for half credit up until the day of the unit test.
E) Extra credit projects will be discussed in class.
F) Behavior points - Each student will begin with 30 behavior points each quarter. Two points will be subtracted for failure to follow any of the student conduct expectations.
