| First Semester Our first semester is playing technique and theory based, the second semester is more performance based. We use the books Technic Today Book 2 by Belwin and Symphonic Band Technique by Southern Music. We will also begin studying our 12 major scales and extending our knowledge of theory. The students are equally divided into 2 bands that will rehearse 3rd and 4th periods. There will be a few combined rehearsals on Wednesdays before school and possibly one or two after school, before the performances. We will perform for the family dinner and again at a concert in December. Second Semester We begin this semester with our concert in March, at Blach. Our next performance will be our adjudication on our trip in Valencia, California. Near the end of the year we will perform a Concert, at Smithwick Theater, Foothill College. The last event of the year for this group is Graduation on June 11th, from 12:45-2:00pm. Graduation is mandatory for all 7th grade students. For detailed performance dates and times. Parents are requested to supply the following for this class: Instrument, reeds, valve or slide oil, cork grease, slide grease, technique books(order through school or jwpepper.com), Uniform (see Uniforms page), system for transporting instruments to and from school. $45 materials fee. |
