Sports Seasons:

Blach offers a wide variety of sports for our junior high students. We participate in the Valley Athletic League for all sports except Tennis and Flag Football. Game schedules can be found on VAL Website.

** Sign-ups are in the locker rooms. We request students wear their PE uniform to help coaches with names. For tryouts, students will meet: Volleyball and Basketball meets in the big gym on the first day of tryouts. Softball meets on the diamond. Soccer on the soccer field. Track and Field on the infield of the track.

2023 - 24

Season 1 (8/21 start): Girls Softball, Boys Basketball
Season 1 (8/23 start): Co-Ed Cross Country
Season 2 (10/9 start): Girls Volleyball, Co-Ed Wrestling
Season 3 (12/4 start): Boys Volleyball, Girls Soccer
Season 4 (2/5 start):   Boys Soccer, Girls Basketball
Season 5 (4/10):         Co-Ed Track & Field

Tennis & Flag Football:

Blach’s Tennis (March-May) does not participate in the Valley Athletic League. Blach Tennis is administered through the Mid-Peninsula Tennis Patrons. Teams participating in the league are determined shortly before the season begins. Information for registration will be given out at the beginning of the Tennis season.

Flag Football (late August – early November) is run separate from Blach Afterschool Sports and is offered as an afterschool activity through the Afterschool Athletics Organization and does not participate in the Valley Athletic League. Registration and information can be found at their website.

Tryouts & Registration:

Due to high interest in some sports and limited space, some sports may have tryouts to determine the roster. Cross Country, Wrestling and Track & Field are Co-Ed and non-cut sports. Most sports will have two teams (7th and 8th Grade).

Tryouts are held at the start of each Sports Season. The PE teachers announce the upcoming Sports Blocks and will provide sign up information to all students. Students are highly encouraged to sign up and complete the try out process on their own. In general, tryouts tend to take place over two days (Mon/Tue) right after school.

Registration for Blach Sports occurs after tryouts once teams are formed. Information will be sent home with your child that include specific instructions on how to register online and pay the $115.00 registration fee with Los Altos Recreation Department. A code will be given to complete the process online before the deadline in order for a student to participate.  Students will also be asked to sign a permission slip and waiver that must be returned to the coach.  (Please note: Sign ups for tryouts occur at Blach, they are not online. Registration for players selected for the team takes place after tryouts with Los Altos Recreation Website not on the VHJSAL league site. LASD uses the VHJSAL league site for game schedules only.)
