Message from the principal
Dear Falcon Families,

With the first full week of school almost behind us, I hope your family is easing into the routines of a school year. I know in my house, the transition has been…well…a transition. My two daughters spent their summer in a wide variety of camps and activities. Now, they are settling into a more consistent schedule. One of my daughters (the “rule follower”) has jumped into her school protocols beautifully- she thrives on routine and structure. My other daughter (the “spirited artist”) has had a more challenging time switching over- but she’ll get there!

Below is some information that needs your attention:

Back to School Night is Wednesday, August 26th beginning at 6:30pm
Please join us for Back to School Night this coming Wednesday. We will start in our multipurpose room promptly at 6:30pm with a short presentation. Then, parents will follow their student’s schedule and attend 10 minute sessions of each class. Your student will fill out their schedule for you during Tuesday’s advisory period and bring it home to you. Be sure to ask your student for this; it'll be written out on a green card that includes a map of the campus. As a reminder, Back-to-School Night is for adults only and students should not attend. Please don’t hesitate if you have any questions.

Family Pancake Breakfast is Saturday, August 29th from 9:00am to 11am.
Keep the Blach community vibe going by attending this annual event on our campus. Pancakes and other breakfast items will be served. Coffee carts will be on hand to handcraft your breakfast beverage. This is a fun, casual event for all family members. Be sure to purchase tickets by going to: https://tinyurl.com/BlachPBbuy

Picture Day — Monday, August 31
Picture Day is happening on Monday, August 31. All students will have their picture taken, regardless of whether families choose to purchase photos. After students take their photo, they will receive their student ID card. Please remind your student to keep their ID with them. We use student IDs periodically throughout the week for hot lunch, and students may also need them for Blach activities, including school dances. If a student is absent on Aug. 31st, they can take their photo on Friday, Oct. 2nd which is our photo make-up day.

I’m looking forward to seeing you at Back-to-School Night and the Pancake Breakfast.

Best regards,
Wade Spenader- Principal

LAEF

Let’s come together and support a high-quality, well-rounded education at Blach this school year.

For 44 years, LAEF has funded the teachers, staff, and programs that make our students’ education exceptional beyond what public funding covers.

Beginning in 2026–27, LAEF is expanding its role by fundraising for instructional programs and materials that were previously supported by the PTAs. This change allows us to provide more consistent support for these programs across every LASD school. This is a shift in fundraising responsibility, not educational priorities, creating clearer roles and simpler giving for families. So we are asking you to shift some of their donations toward LAEF, in a similar way to how the fundraising responsibilities are shifting.

Let's set our students up for a successful year. Learn more about what your gift makes possible.
LASD + LAEF + PTA + You!
Here’s how to partner with us:

Step 2: Join and donate to the PTA for each school your children attend

Thank you for supporting our neighborhood schools!

Blach Counseling Center
We are wrapping up an awesome first full week of school! On Monday, the counseling department teamed up with student leadership on the front lawn to welcome 17 of our newest Falcons. Highlights included an energetic game of Musical Chairs and students taking on the Giant Tetris challenge.

The excitement continued Tuesday with the season premiere of the Thrive and Vibe Center for the 2026–2027 school year. It was wonderful seeing 7th and 8th graders coming together, hanging out, and building new friendships. We can't wait for everything this year has in store!

New Volunteer Authorization Process

Beginning this school year, LASD is introducing a new Volunteer Authorization Process that provides one consistent system for all school volunteers. The new process builds on procedures already in place for certain volunteer roles and aligns with updated California law and district policy.

To make the process as simple as possible, volunteers are grouped into three levels based on the type of volunteer work they perform. Most classroom volunteers who are always under the supervision of an LASD staff member will complete a straightforward application and tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment or testing.
Volunteers who may work independently with students or transport students (including after school sports) will complete additional requirements appropriate to those roles.

  • An overview of the three volunteer levels
  • Information about whether you are considered a visitor or a volunteer
  • Step-by-step instructions for each volunteer level
  • Links to all required forms and resources

To provide families with plenty of time to complete the new requirements, volunteers will have until December 30, 2026, to complete the authorization process.
