Dear Falcon Families,
The sound of “clomp, clomp, clomp” is emitting from our halls, created by the sound of 8th graders wearing their hiking boots in preparation for their Yosemite trip on the week of Nov. 9th.
We keep checking the forecast for Curry Village and hoping for good weather- defined as simply no rain!
I would like to call your attention to the district’s Illuminate event which takes place on February 26th. This is a great opportunity for all students- especially Blach’s outstanding student body- to showcase their passion about something they have learned about over the course of the year. Perhaps you have seen your student really dive into something this year (even outside of school)? Keep reading below for more information.
Can students wear costumes tomorrow to school? Yes, but…
The junior high doesn’t celebrate Halloween like the elementary schools do but we don’t deter students from wearing costumes. We’ve reminded students that tomorrow is a regular school day but they can wear a costume as long as:
- There are no masks that completely cover the face
- Costumes are not overly bloody or gruesome
- No fake (or real) weapons are brought to school
- No inflatable costumes (they restrict movement in classrooms and can be disruptive)
Students can, of course, choose not wear a costume tomorrow.
ILLUMINATE LASD
What happens when students lead their own learning and dive deeply into a question that matters to them, and share their voices in powerful ways? Illuminate LASD invites students to become experts, innovators, and change-makers. Whether it’s researching a topic they’re passionate about, solving a problem that inspires them, or creating something to make an impact, students will share the artifacts that highlight the learning process. From TK to 8th grade, Illuminate LASD invites students to share what they now know and can do by sharing the process and products of their learning on Friday, February 26th from 4:00PM - 7:00PM.

Finally, don't forget that Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend! Remember to set your clocks back one hour Saturday night, giving us all an extra hour of sleep on Sunday.
Wishing you and your family a festive and safe Halloween weekend!
